LED Tube lights are environmentally-friendly replacement of common fluorescent lights, which are better energy savers and offer brighter illumination. It uses up to 40% less wattage as compared to fluorescent lights. LED tube light is ballast free and provides no-buzz, no-flicker and no-heat to the environment. One can enjoy years of clean and healthy surroundings after getting fixtures o LEDs at homes or offices.
The plastic construction and durable aluminium is safer to handle than the glass fluorescent lights which contains mercury.
Initially, the fluorescent tubes FTL, were nearly 40/32 diameter which were later replaced by smaller diameter of 25mm i.e T8 and 16mm i.e T5 which helped by putting an impact in saving energy and material in manufacturing. The size has no particular significance, except that the Retrofit tube light is being produced to match the legacy.
T5 LED tube lights are advanced in their performance and looks when it comes to compare T5 and others. “T” stands for tubular or tube. The figure specifies the tube diameter. Since one “T” is equal to the length of 1/8 inch, so the diameter of T5 LED tube is 5/8 inch. T5 LED tube is thinner in shape and size.
The core of the LED tube light is a strip of 96 LEDs of 0.2 W 2835W LEDs in most demanded colour of white. The Cool White is measured as Colour Correlated Temperature (CCT) of 5700/6000K. Neutral White is 4500K whereas warm white is 3000K CCT which is highly preferred in Europe & USA. Basically, CCT is not the actual temperature of the LEDs, but colour emitted by a black body or the wire which is running at the same temperature. Cool White LEDs have a bit higher luminous efficiency over Warm Whites.

Usually, the LEDs are interlinked in 24 series and 4 parallel strings, and run with a Constant Current of 75v 240mA output. The traditional lighting technologies need Constant Voltage, while all LEDs need a DC Constant Voltage. The driver circuit is equivalent to the choke or ballast as one can see in fluorescent and CFLs which converts the mains AC volts with the LED string voltage. This is an additional feature of controlled current. If there is a tube light failure, the common reason behind it could be the failure of the driver. A driver that has surge protection is able to work and protect even if there is high voltage or power condition is poor.
The outer size of T5 is more highlighting and appealing to look. Apart from the driver circuit, LEDs’ quality depends upon Metal PCB on which the LEDs are soldered. If you are able to have a look inside it, avoid buying the ones which have FR4 or are non-metallic PCB. The metal body on which the PCB is placed and the quality of designing its structure results how well the heat is transferred from LEDs to the metal body and to the environmental air: air which accepts the left over heat into its surroundings.
Every manufacturer claims to be the best in market. But how can a common customer identifies it? It is best to go for a tube light which has a metal base. And of course, look for a reliable company’s name which mostly serves the quality and has good customers’ feedback.
